Who else has seen my credit report?
Your credit report enables you to see who has viewed your credit information either for credit applications or otherwise. This is recorded in the credit applications and searches section of your credit report – searches are kept on report for 2 years and enables you to see who has viewed your credit information.
Applications for credit will be noted as a credit search footprint, other viewings of your credit report, such as when you apply for a job or a flat, noted as an enquiry footprint.
No one can view your credit file without your permission except the taxman, the DSS, the police or others with court approval.

Got something to say?

It seems that someone who has lived in my house yet has no financial association with me nor is a relative has been turned down for credit. Apparently this is because of ‘information on the address’ rather than him. This to me suggests that my file has been accessed in the credit search. I do not have CCJs only some previous late payments. I have been assured that I have not been named on any application form as friend or family. I was under the impression that my credit file could only be searched with my permissions unless a court order had been obtained. This is clearly not the case. I have advised the person to get a notice of disassociation from my file. Can I take action (under the Data Protection Act?) the credit companies for unauthorised accessing/searching of my credit files?
@ Natalie Jones this is quite normal I believe Im afraid if someone applies for credit from the same address at the same time you live their it is assumed they have a financial link with you this is easily removed by contacting the credit report company in question but is not in breach of the data protection according to present UK laws i believe altough Im not a legal expert in these matters so please contact relevant legal advise for further info
